Frequently asked questions

Plain English answers to common questions about AML/CTF compliance for WA settlement agents.

Yes. From 1 July 2026, every licensed settlement agent in WA must be enrolled with AUSTRAC as a reporting entity under the AML/CTF Act. This is separate from your settlement agent licence. Settliance™ guides you through the enrolment process step by step.

An AML/CTF program is a written document that sets out how your practice identifies, mitigates, and manages money laundering and terrorism financing risks. It covers your risk assessment, procedures, and employee due diligence obligations. Every settlement agent must have one in place by 1 July 2026.

CDD is the process of verifying who your client is before you act for them. It involves four steps: identifying the client, verifying their identity, identifying beneficial owners (for trusts, companies, and complex structures), and ongoing monitoring. Your existing VOI process is one piece of CDD — Settliance™ builds the rest.

The Compliance Board starts at $197 + GST (one-off, self-serve). The Full Program is $1,497 + GST per year — done for you, WA-specific, and you own everything permanently. For context, the government estimates compliance setup costs up to $28,650 for a small business, and platform subscriptions run $2,000–$6,000 per year.

Your work is not wasted. The AUSTRAC Conveyancing Program Starter Kit is a starting point — and AUSTRAC says exactly that. Their own documentation states it cannot be relied on to meet regulatory expectations. Settliance™ is the implementation layer on top of the Kit. We pick up where it left off and build out your WA-specific procedures from there.

Yes. Everything Settliance™ builds for you — your AML/CTF program, your Client Compliance Framework, your 8 policy templates, your training records — is yours permanently. If you cancel, you keep everything. No subscription required to keep your own compliance documents.

You have three options: use your program independently (no ongoing cost), take the Full Program annual which includes monthly task prompts and an annual review, or add the Ongoing Partner Program ($297/month) for monthly check-ins with Stacey, regulatory change alerts, and priority support.

No. Settliance™ is a compliance service, not a software platform. Your Client Compliance Framework is delivered as a ready-to-use system that you own. You do not need to learn new software or maintain a subscription to access your own compliance documents.
